Lucy Reid

Chief Operating Officer

Despite growing up in the borderlands of Northumberland and Herefordshire in the UK, Lucy has always been drawn to cities – living in Paris and Sydney before settling in Birmingham over 20 years ago.

After a brief stint in journalism, acting as Editorial Assistant to the veteran French correspondent of The Independent, John Lichfield, Lucy began her career in arts management, working for choirs and orchestras in the UK and Australia: highlights included working for the world-renowned children’s choir Gondwana Voices, with performances at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, a sleepover at the Sydney Opera House, and managing numerous concert seasons and recordings with choirs and orchestras.

She went on to spend 16 years in senior operational roles at the National Trust - Europe’s largest conservation charity, that cares for historic sites, natural landscapes and green spaces across England, Wales and Northern Ireland for public benefit ‘forever, for everyone’. She managed large and diverse portfolios of National Trust places in the Midlands and East of England, and led significant programmes of capital works. As Programme Director for Birmingham, she developed the Trust's first holistic city strategy, activating historic buildings and green spaces through local and national partnerships and creative programming, in ways that told stories of the city, and were all about civic pride.

Lucy has a particular interest in bringing together culture, nature and civic engagement through collaborations and coalitions. She leads our engagement with cultural institutions, and works to bring ‘just enough structure’ to our still new and emergent organisation.

As a volunteer, Lucy is Chair of Moseley Road Baths CIO, leading a community-driven transformation - powered by local activism - that has secured over £25 million in capital funding, and has brought funders, supporters and campaigners together to change the fortunes of one of Birmingham’s most significant heritage assets and community spaces. She is also a trustee of the John Feeney Charitable Trust.

Lucy is based in Birmingham, the UK. She speaks English, French, and Italian.
